As far as I know, the military does not require one to relinquish parental rights in order to enlist. However, I have heard that they may require a recruit to relinquish custody.

Is there a court order for custody? Is there an order for child support? If there is no court order, perhaps the military wants to be sure that the custody and support are legally established.
