Mislabeled as Independent Contractor

I live in Minnesota and discovered that my former boss had miscategorized me as an "independent contractor" instead of an "employee" and never paid any taxes on my pay, I have to pay all the taxes. I found this out by looking at the statutes regarding the classifications for someone to be considered an employee, and I meet all the criteria. I worked for him for over two years, can I bring him to court for the amount that he was suppose to pay, but I ended up having to pay for it? If not, is there anything else besides unpaid overtime that I could claim?
