Court records show a woman arrested for a 9-year-old boy's stabbing death has been identified as the child's mother.
UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas (KSAT) - Texas court records show a woman arrested for capital murder for a 9-year-old boy's stabbing death has been identified as the child's mother.
The 50-year-old Texas woman, named by authorities as Wilma Jamitza Medina, is charged with the capital murder of her 9-year-old son.
According to the arrest affidavit, it was Medina's husband, who is a police officer, who had returned home to hear screaming in their bedroom.
The man had to break the door down because it was locked, officers stated in the arrest affidavit.
Police say once he got inside, he saw Medina holding the 9-year-old boy, who was not moving.
Medina was also stabbing herself, according to police, before her husband grabbed her and tried to get what was called a dagger-like object away from her.
The child died from multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Medina was taken to the hospital, the arrest affidavit says.
While there, Medina kept saying to authorities she was being followed by people. She also requested an attorney when her Miranda rights were read.
Now, Universal City police say this is one of the hardest scenes for first responders to respond to.
"I don't think that anything could have prepared our first responders of the city for what they saw," Detective David Fawcett said.
According to police, there have been no prior calls made to the home or against Medina. They also said they weren't aware of any mental health issues she may have had.
"We've had the opportunity, luckily, to get officers and have a debrief and talk about it and everything like that," Fawcett added. "And our firefighters and EMS, they've had a chance to sit down and kind of get it all out and everything like that, and take care of their mental health."
Medina was booked into the Bexar County Jail after receiving medical care. Her bond was set at $600,000.
Since it's a capital murder case, the district attorney's office has the option of proceeding with the death penalty.
