FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) - Victims of the OB-GYN accused of filming patients without consent at Fort Hood's Darnall Medical Center joined their lawyer for a news conference just outside the gates of the Central Texas Army post.
This was actually the first time we heard directly from some of the women who say they were violated by this doctor.
They said they want justice and accountability for his actions, and for some of them, that starts with the civil lawsuit Cobos Law Firm plans to file on their behalf.
The Cobos Law Firm traveled to Fort Hood from Houston to accuse the doctor and Fort Hood leadership for what they allege was a years-long assault on female patients at Darnall Medical Center.
They claim the assaults were allowed to continue because of poor leadership at multiple levels.
"He would treat survivors, victims, his patients, OB-GYN ladies who would go in for breast examinations," said Attorney Andrew Cobos with the Cobos Law Firm. "They would go in and check up on their pregnancies, and he would improperly photograph and videotape these women as he was conducting those procedures."
Cobos alleges the doctor recorded the invasive images with his cellphone.
"As he was conducting the procedures, he would go to a back room, he would put his phone in his breast pocket, and he would explain to the women that he is expecting a phone call," said Cobos.
The of the 16 clients the law firm is currently representing shared some of what they say they experienced but did not want to be identified.
One client traveled from Colorado to do so.
"A physician I once trusted from the women's center," said the client from Colorado. "Only to have that trust violated when he took it upon himself to perform a second vaginal surgery on me, without my consent, while under general anesthesia, and manipulated to believe that this was okay while I was in recovery and in pain."
Others who just wanted to get an ultrasound or have their first child.
"He crossed professional and personal boundaries in ways that made me feel deeply uncomfortable and unsafe," said another client. "He then further violated my trust by lying in his clinical report about the things that he said and the way that he touched me during that visit."
"Before, every time that I looked at my son, I would remember those first few days with so much love and happiness," said yet another client. "Now, every time I think about it, all I can remember is how I was violated during the most vulnerable time in my life. His actions combined with the failure of the hospital to protect my privacy, will impact myself and the other victims for the rest of our lives."
The Cobos Law firm said this doctor had several complaints against him both here at Darnall Medical Center and other installations he worked at.
Complaints they say fell on deaf ears and now they say they are suing so that doesn't happen again.
KWTX is not identifying the accused doctor because he has not been charged with a crime at this time.
