I don't give Vance good odds at this point of succeeding Trump. Trump won election with a narrow majority and Vance doesn't have nearly the force of personality that Trump has. Trump's outsize personality helps him ride out the reactions to some of the absurd and stupid stuff he says, but I don't see Vance being so lucky in deflecting the blowback from some of the stupid things he's said. Vance has four years to go before he makes the run (if he chooses to) and he better hope Trump ends his term a lot better than it's starting out. Vice presidents of unpopular presidents don't fare well when running for the top job themselves.

My view, and I've said it here a number of times, is that both parties need fresh faces and ideas in Washington. The country being run by presidents, representatives, and senators pushing 80+ years old with many decades living in DC won't do it. The people with the most at stake in the future of the country today are the young adults who will have to live with the choices we make for decades after I, and some others on this board, are long dead. It's time we had some younger people coming in to replace the geriatric crowd who are longer in touch with what is really happening in this country. Decades of time in Washington cuts members of Congress off from the true situations their constituents face. Instead the loudest voices in their ears are the lobbyists who shovel lots of money to their campaign organizations.

One of our founders, I forget which one off the top of my head, envisioned Congress as a place where where citizens would serve a few terms and then return to their private lives, with new people coming into Congress with fresh ideas and experience of what is currently happening in the real world. Career politicians weren't on the radar in 1789. The career politician, regardless of party, is perhaps one of the worst developments in governance in our nation. When lobbyists have more sway than the voters in deciding particular bills we've lost the concept of representative democracy.
