Not knowing who had them is not the same as making a knowingly false report. If you led him to believe you had them at one time, it is reasonable for him to accuse you of having them. A false report requires that the defendant KNOW that the information he is providing is false ... i.e. he made it up. That's not the same as saying he thinks you stole them but cannot be sure whether you have them or not.I'm not worrying much now. I went to the restraining order hearing, and he said under oath that he did not know who had the dog tags.
So if the detective comes knocking, I'll direct him to that court hearing. Would they charge him with filing a false police report?
