Today, went to Target. Did not bother anyone, conceal merchandise, or do anything unusual/suspicious/illegal. A security guard asked me what I was looking for. "Sweatpants". "What do you have in your pocket?". I took out my wallet. "Did you put anything in your backpack?". "No." "The sweatpants are over there." Then I picked out some sweatpants. Then when I was going to the dressing room, the security guard had the nerve to approach me with another security guard. "Here's what you're gonna do: put down the merchandise and leave. Don't come back to the store bro." I did not say anything; I just put down the merchandise and walked out the door. He did not follow me outside, touch me, or call the cops. (That particular Target has its own police station on site.) (He did not make a "Wrongful Accusation" per se.) "Twenty pairs of sweatpants," he told the other security guard.
The reason why I just left was because I did not want to have to interact with cops or anything like that. ("Pick your battles." (But the concept kind of emotionally disturbing, in that he made such a large misunderstanding about me, based on not even half an hour when I was @ Target, and I didn't even do anything eventful or anything like that. It makes me wonder: what else have/will someone else misunderstood/misunderstand about me, and what kind of bad and wrong things will happen to me as a result of the misunderstandings?).
(There is no merchandise at Target that other stores do not also carry.)
He did not make any statement or action that indicated that it was "discrimination".
He did not tell me what I did bad/wrong/illegal, nor did I ask.
However, the law is "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

Questions:
What should I have done in that situation?
Am I now banned from all Targets for the rest of my life, or just that one Target and for how long?
How will that ban be enforced? He did not take my ID, fingerprints, or anything like that?
