PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (WPBF) - Police say a teacher was found naked inside an elementary school classroom in Florida over Thanksgiving break.

According to court records, 34-year-old Joe Urias was a teacher at Somerset College Preparatory Academy in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Authorities were called to Windmill Point Elementary School on Thanksgiving for an alarm indicating a burglary in progress.

When they arrived, they found no evidence of forced entry but through a window, a deputy spotted Urias naked in a classroom along with clothes, food, a laptop, sex toys and marijuana.

According to Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk, Urias saw the deputy, quickly got dressed and left the school. When the deputy tried to apprehend him, Urias punched him in the face.

According to a Facebook post by Somerset College Preparatory Academy, Urias is no longer employed there.

When comments from what appeared to be parents began questioning the charter school on their hiring practices, the school responded by saying the district has changed how they informed the school on background checks and the school will now know if someone has a record and can decide if they want to hire the person.

Niemczyk says thankfully, no one else was at the school when it happened.

"There were no children present. There was nobody inside the school at the time. He was by himself. You know, as to the vulgarity, I think I just don't even want to get into his mind and think about what he was thinking," he said.

Police say it appears Urias is experiencing homelessness and may have used an unlocked window to get inside.

He faces several charges including battery of a law enforcement officer.
