My brother has just passed. My sister in law lives alone now and wants to sell her house because it is too much to handle on her own.

My brother and his wife were both in the lower income status. When he passed, the SSA of my brother didn't increase her SSA that much. So she also receives SSI income.

The question is, will the money received from the sale of her house affect the current amount she receives from both of these programs?

If, by SSA, you mean Social Security Retirement benefits, no, they will not be affected.

However, the sale of the home will affect SSI (Supplemental Security Income).

She would be wise to consult an SSI attorney before selling.
